Thiruchakarapalli/Saptha Sthana Sthalam is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located on the river banks of Cauvery in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.  Thiruchakarapalli stands first in the row of seven sacred temples of Lord Shiva worshipped by Saptha Rishis and Saptha Mathas.   The Saptha Sthana Sthalangal are Thiruchakaramangai, Thiruariyamangai, Thirusulamangai, Thirunandimangai, Thirupasumangai, Thiruthazhamangai and Thirupullamangai.  In this temple, Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga.

The legend has that Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva and attained the fierce weapon Discus.  Goddess Sri Parvati worshipped Lord in the form of a Chakravaha Paravai and pleased the Lord.  Hence, the presiding deity of this temple has got his name Chakravaheswarar.

 

This temple remains open from 7.00 AM to 9.00 AM in the morning and 5.00 PM to 7.00 PM in the evenings.
