This is one of the prominent places of Lord Shiva where Lord Brahma was burnt into ashes after a Brahma Kalpa.  All the deities arrived on this sacred land; they underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva.  They all appealed to Lord Shiva to restore Lord Brahma’s life so as to reinstate the function of Trinities.  Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of the deities and brought back Lord Brahma into life.  Moreover, the most compassionate Lord provided eternal wisdom and knowledge of creation to Lord Brahma.

The legend has that Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva and underwent severe austerities to obtain a powerful weapon dice to behead the demon Jalandhara.  Lord Vishnu worshipped Lord Shiva in Thirumarperu, Thiruppaineeli and Thiruveezhimalai.   Thiruveezhimalai is one of the most prominent places where Lord Vishnu acquired the fierce weapon dice.  Lord Vishnu arrived on this sacred land and started to worship Lord Shiva with 1000 lotus flowers.  While the worship was taking place Lord Vishnu realized that there was only 999 flowers were available.   There was no time left to gather the missing one and resume the worship.  Instantly, Lord Vishnu was prepared to pluck his eye which is identical to lotus flower and offer in place of the missing flower.  Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of Lord Vishnu and appeared before him.   Lord Shiva was delighted at the dedication of Lord Vishnu and blessed him with the dice, one of the ferocious weapons.

This is one of the sacred lands where Lord Shiva married to Goddess Sri Parvati.  In this temple Lord Shiva can be seen in wedding attire.

Thanks for the update on Thirumalpur, thiruveezhimalai and thirupainneeli temples. Is the weapon acquired a dice or a chakra?
