Nayanar was born in the family of farmers in Irinchiyur/Thiru Varinchayur, one
of the flourished lands in Chola Dynasty.
He was a zealous devotee of Lord Shiva.
He made a practice of cut off the tongue of people who speaks ill about
the devotees of Lord. In this way, he
created a factual awareness in the society not to speak awful things about the
saints and devotees of Lord which could provide terrible sins.
In the Tamil
month Aippasi-Poosam is widely celebrated as Guru Puja Day, the day Thiru
Chaththi Nayanar attained the Abode of Lord Shiva.
