The legend has that Lord Shiva with his consort Goddess Sri Parvati was occupied in dice game at Mount Kailash, every time Goddess Sri Parvati won over the Lord.   Most irritatingly Lord Shiva declared himself as the winner of the game.  At this moment, Goddess Sri Parvati playfully closed the eyes of Lord with both the hands.  As a result, the entire Universe doomed into darkness and all the activities were frozen.  Goddess Sri Parvati repented at her act and requested Lord for forgiveness.    Lord Shiva pacified Goddess Sri Parvati,   instructed her to worship Lord in all the sacred lands and was sent down to Earth.  The kindhearted Lord also advised that her left shoulder and left eye would flutter as a positive sign   during her worship of Lord in a particular place on the Earth and that would be the place where the divine couple unites once again.  Goddess Sri Parvati visited many sacred lands on the Earth and finally arrived at the dense forest of Pathiri.  She experienced the positive symptoms as per   the divine instruction of Lord and settled on this sacred land.   Goddess Parvati underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord in her formless nature (Aroopa - without any particular form).   Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of Goddess Sri Parvati and gracefully accepted her.

This temple remains open from 6.00AM to 11.00AM in the morning and 5.00PM to 7.00PM in the evenings.
