There are many interesting myths attached to this temple.  The Chera King had no heirs to rule the Kingdom after his death.  He was a passionate devotee of Lord Vishnu; he earnestly prayed to Lord for a virtuous offspring and visited many holy places.  King had a dream in that Lord revealed his existence on this sacred land and instructed him build a temple on its place to worship.  King and his men were arrived on this land and found Garuda encircling a huge mound made by ants.  Kings men started the excavation process exactly on this place; while work was in progress the spade hit hardly on the idol and started to bleed.  Instantly, King’s physician applied a medicine made out of herbs added with oil.  Surprisingly, the bleeding has stopped instantaneously.  In this temple sacred bath to Lord is performed with a unique oil added with the herbs and Bhog prepared without chilies are used as offerings to Lord.

Another legend has that the two demons Madhu and Kaitaba abducted Vedas and sacred scriptures.  Lord Brahma prayed to Lord Vishnu to preserve the Vedas.  Lord Vishnu beheaded the two demons and the fat from their bodies were polluted the entire Earth and stretched out as a solid upper layer.  Goddess Boodevi prayed to Lord Vishnu to get rid of this effluence and worshipped Lord on this sacred land.

This temple remains open from 7.00AM to 12.00PM in the morning and 5.00PM to 9.00PM in the evenings.
