Thirumullaivoyal Sri Masillamaniswarar Temple is one of the Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Tiruvalluvar District, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  This is one of the oldest temples built in Dravidian Architecture by Thondaiman Chakravarthy.  The stunning carving on the pillars, striking images of Goddess Ashtalakshmi and deities in the shrine of Goddess Kodiyidai Nayaki reveals the spectacular craftsmanship of that era. Saint Arunagirinathar sung praising Lord Subramanya in his Thirupukazh was beautifully engraved on the stone walls are the added attractions of this temple.    In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga. 



Presidingdeity–Sri Masillamaniswarar with his consort Goddess Sri Kodiyidai Amman is the manifestation of Kriya Sakthi.



Mangalasasanam – Sundarar and Thiru Ramalinga Adikalar sung praising the Lord in this temple.  Saint Arunagirinathar also sung praising the Lord Subramanya in this temple.

The legend has that this sacred land was under the regime of Thondaiman Chakravarthy.  This land was vigorously occupied by two demons Vanan and Onan, they created lot of miseries to the life of the people lived here.  Emperor Thondaiman came to know about the atrocities of the demons and declared a battle against them.  On his way to battlefield, Emperor’s elephant got wedged with the jasmine creepers and while he was trying to clear the creepers with his sword, blood gushed out of the creepers.  Emperor felt thoroughly disappointed at this incident.  On that night he had a dream in that compassionate Lord revealed his existence as Linga in this very sacred land.  Shortly, at the instruction of the Emperor a grand temple was built for the worship of Lord Masillamaniswarar.


In this temple Lord Nandikeshwara can be seen facing opposite to Lord Masillamaniswarar.  It is believed that Lord Shiva instructed Lord Nandi to assist the Emperor on his mission to fight with the two demons Vanan and Onan. 



Worship of Kriya Sakthi – Goddess Sri Kodiyidai Amman along with Iccha Sakthi and Gnan Sakthi  - Goddess Sri Thiruvudai Amman (Melur) and Goddess Sri Vadivudai Amman (Thiruvotiyur) brings abundance of devoutness. 



This temple remains open from 7.00AM to 11.00PM in the morning and 4.30PM to 7.30PM in the evenings.
