The
legend has that Goddess Kamakshi and Sri Mahalakshmi had a conversation while
bathing in Kama Koshta Theertham. Lord
Vishnu hid behind the pillar and overheard their conversation. Goddess Kamakshi realized the presence of
Lord Vishnu observing them closely; therefore Lord Vishnu known as ‘Thiru
Kalvan’ and the place has got its name ‘Thirukalvanoor’. In
this temple Lord Vishnu can be seen in standing, sitting and reclining postures
in the northern side of the temple tank.
