Lord Brahma had to bring to a sudden halt to his creation and it created a huge chaos among the deities.  All the deities approached Lord Vishnu in this sacred land to save Mother Earth from the clutches of demon Hiranyaksha.   Thus, this place has got its name ‘Thirukoodalur’ (Koodal – meeting, Oor-place).
