Kurumba Nayanar was born in Perumizhalai a flourished land in the Mizhalai Kingdom.  During those periods of time this blessed land had huge number of admirers of Shaiva Siddhantha.  Kurumba Nayanar was one amongst them; he was a zealous devotee of Lord Shiva and his followers.  He served the Lord self-lessly and received His followers with great honor and respect; he immensely served them with food and shelter.

Kurumba Nayanar’s marvelous Guru Bhakthi and devotion to Lord provided him with all the virtues.  Kurumba Nayanar had high admiration towards Sundaramurthy Nayanar and accepted him as his Acharya.  In the meantime, Sundaramurthy Nayanar had taken up a spiritual journey to Thiruvanchikulam.   Thiruvanchikulam was one of the sacred lands in Chera Kingdom ruled by Cheraman Perumal Nayanar.  Kurumba Nayanar with his Yogic powers was able to foresee the incidents going to happen to Sunadarar.  It was unbearable for Kurumba Nayanar to be on this Earth in his Guru’s absence.  He decided to leave his mortal body with his splendid yogic powers and attained the Abode of Lord Shiva.

In the Tamil month Adi – Chithirai is widely celebrated as Guru Puja Day of Kurumba Nayanar, the day he attained Salvation at the feet of Lords of Lord.
