Our Temple Tour to Kachapeshwarar Temple, Kanchi !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!

We visited Kachapeshwarar Temple in the morning around 7.30 AM; the temple and its surroundings were quite calm. As the temple priest was not in rush, we had wonderful opportunity to communicate with him.  In fact, he was more willing to share with us about the sthalapuranam from his limited knowledge.  He asked ‘Neengal Engirunthu Varel?’ (Where are you coming from?).  We said we are coming from Chennai.  He became more enthusiastic and continued that there are many temples in Chennai those are replica of temples of Kanchi.  There is a Kachapeshwarar Temple in Chennai, Geroge Town too. He added ‘Bhagavan, Nammal nalathai karuthi Nam pakkathilrunthu seva sadhikarar.’  (Lord always thinks about the wellbeing of His devotees. When you take one step towards Him, He will take 1000 steps towards you).

Presiding deity: Kachapeshwarar with His consort Soundrambikai

Worshipped by: Lord Brahma, Goddess Saraswathy, Lord Vishnu, Sage Shukracharya

Sannidhis: Chathurmukheshwarar, Lord Vinayaka worshipped by Lord Vishnu, Goddess Saraswathi, Lord Ayyappa and Kala Bairavar.  There are sannidhis of Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha Siddheshwara also can be seen.

Pushkarani: Ishta Siddhi Theertham

This is one of the oldest temples existing from the date back to Pallava dynasty. The presiding deity Lord Kachapeshwarar Lord Shiva in the form of Linga was also worshipped by Lord Vishnu as tortoise (Kachapa).  Thus, Lord Shiva assumed the name ‘Kachapeshwarar’ in this temple.
