Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!

Sri Vedapureeshwarar Temple also known as Vadavedharanyam is located on the banks of Cheyyar River in Tiruvallur District, near Kanchi.   This is the place where Lord Vedapureeshwara appeared on the Earth for imparting knowledge on the Sacred Vedas as a spiritual master.   This is one of the 8th  ‘Thevara Sthalam’  amongst 32 in Thondai Mandalam.  The temple inscription reveals the existence of the temple from the mid period of Chola regime.  The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Vedapureeshwara and His consort Goddess Balambika.  This is also one of the ‘Thevara Padal Petra Idam’ (the place where the Tamil Saint’s, the ardent devotees sung praising the glories of Lord Shiva).  This is the place where the Four Vedas transformed into a Neem Tree and worshipped Lord Shiva, thus the place got its name Thiruverkadu.

There are sannidhis for Lord Vinayaka, Saint Arunagirinathar, Lord Shanishwara, Chandikeshwara, Sage Agasthya, Lord Surya, Navagraha, Lord Dakshinamurthy, Lingodbhavar, Goddess Durga and Lord Brahma.  The wall of the main shrine is decorated with the beautiful sculptures of first four sivaites and 63 Nayanmars.  Pancha Bootha Lingas can be seen and worshipped here.

The legend has the Sage Agastya prayed to Lord Shiva to reveal His ‘Thiru Kalyanam Kolam’ with Goddess Parvathy.  The compassionate Lord blessed Sage Agasthya with His splendid ‘celestial marriage’ appearance.  Hence, the ‘Thiru Kalyanam Kolam’ of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathy with Sage Agastya sitting in front of them also can be seen here.  One of the four Shivaites – Thiru Gnansambandar sung praising the glories of Lord and made a male palm tree turned into flowering plant by his devotion to Lord.  Another significance of the temple is that Sri Arunagirinathar, who was the composer of ‘Thirupukazh’ worshipped and sung praising the glory of  Lord Vedapureeshwarar.

This temple remains open from the morning 5.30 AM to 11.30 AM and 4.30PM to 8.30PM in the night.  The main festival of this temple is ‘Brahmostavam’ celebrates in a grand manner for 10 days.

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!
