Lord Shaneeshwara was born to Lord Surya and Chaya Devi.  He is the elder brother of Lord Yama - God of Death.  Lord Surya's both the sons Lord Shaneeshwara and Lord Yama performs almost the same responsibilities as bringing justice by providing appropriate rewards to the life of human beings before and after death.  According to the sacred scriptures, He is the provider of  good luck for the righteous people and troublesome to vice versa.  It is believed that Lord Shaneeshwara when he opened his eyes for the time after birth the sun went to cast a shadow on, it shows the impact of His vision.  Lord Shaneeshwara clad in Black, holding arrows and daggers in both the hands and mounted on his vehicle Vulture.

The great Epic Srimad Ramayana describes,  Lord Shaneeshwara was in detention and kept under the custodian of the Demon King Ravana, later He was released  by Lord Anjaneya.  As a reward of His release from the clutches of Demon King Ravana, Lord Shaneeshwara promised  that whoever worship  Lord Anjaneya would be  saved from the clutches of Lord Shaneeshwara.
