Angarika Sankashti Chathurthi falls on Tuesday 22nd march 2011, on the fourth day of full moon.
Worship of Lord Vinayaka brings Intelligence and Success in all endevours. During the days of Sankataharana Chathurthi, worshipping Lord Ganesha with Grass (Arugampullu), incense, flowers, ghee lamp, fasting on this day and chanting the names of Lord Ganesha brings abundance of merits. Even the Navagraha Doshas ( ill effects in human life due to the changes in Planetary positions) get rid of worshipping Lord Ganesha on Sankataharana Chathurthi.
Once, Avvayyar (Tamil poet) - composer of 'Vinayakar Akaval' while worshipping Lord Ganesha on the day of Chathurthi, hurried to finish her daily prayers. Lord Ganesha asked his ardent devotee Avvayyar why she was in such a hurry to finish her prayers. She replied that Sundarar (famous devotee of Lord Shiva) with a group of Sanyasins were undertaking the visit to Mount Kailash and she also wanted to be a part of their journey. Lord Ganesha replied to her that, it would be His responsibilty to bring her to Mount Kailash with no effort. Later, Lord Ganesha brought Avvayyar to Mount Kailash with his long tusk carrying her effortlessly for the dharshan of Lord Shiva.
