Madhva/Madhav Navami !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

'Madhav Navami' commemorates Madhvacharaya who was a renowned exponent of the dualistic /Dvaitha Siddhanta School of philosophy. He established Sad-Vaishnavism which reveals the dual concept of Supreme Being and individual Soul and wrote Gita Bashyam, commentaries on Upanishads and Brahma Sutra.

'Vasudeva' Madhvacharya was born in the year 1199 in a village at Velali District of Udupi, Karnataka. His parents, Madhya Geha and Vedavati were righteous Tulu Brahmins. Vasudeva learnt Veda, Sastra Puranas and Vedanta and had profound knowledge in it.  He had a well-built body and thus he took part in physical activities like wrestling, swimming etc. At the age of twenty five, he embraced Sanyasashrama from Guru Achuytaprakasha Acharya and became the head of the Madhva Mutt.  It is believed that Madhvacharya was an incarnation of Lord Vayu.  In order to spread the 'Bakthi' cult, he took extensive trips to the Southern and Northern parts of India. Immediately after returning from his trip to Badrikashram, he wrote Gita Bashyam and commentary on Vedanta Sutras. The prime location of Madhva Mutt is in Udupi and there are many shrines constructed within the precincts.

Madhvacharya's teachings were simple and easily understandable to everyone who had the desire to acquire self - realization and God - realization. The principle of Renunciation defines devotion to Lord and meditation leads to 'Salvation'.  He insists the study of Veda, complete surrendering to Lord, being dispassionate and control over senses which would provide 'Salvation'.
