Maha Navami /Sri Durga Navami is the ninth day of Navaratri (Sharad Navaratri). Worship of Goddess Durga, fasting and observe severe austerities on these days, perform Kanyaka Pooja, Suhasini Pooja, Dhampathi poojas etc…provides meritorious rewards.

According to hindu scriptures Sri Durga depicted as fierce form of Adi Sakthi, a powerful goddess riding on a roaring lion,   carrying ten malicious weapons in each hands. Sri Durga is the Supreme Goddess and mother of Lord Ganesha and Lord Karthikeya.  Goddess Sri Parvati transformed herself into a fierce form to behead the demon Mahishasura on this day.  Hence Durga Ashtami/Navami commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura.
