Kshetram is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in
Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. In
this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga.

Lord
Surya was cursed by Rathidevi for his immoral approach while she was grieving
upon the sudden demise of Lord Kamadeva.
He arrived on this sacred land, worshipped Lord Apathsahayeswara and got
rid of the curse.
Rathidevi
worshipped Lord Shiva and got back her husband Lord Kamadeva who was burnt into
ashes by Lord Shiva.
Lord Surya
was afflicted with a sin for taking part in the Yagna conducted by
Dakshaprajapathi and the adverse consequences of the same. He arrived on this holy land, created a pond
and worshipped Lord Shiva. Thus, Lord
Surya got rid of the curse.

temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 10.00AM in the morning and 4.30 PM to 7.30
PM in the evenings.
