Agni Puranam - The description of Hell !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Agni Puranam describes the types of Hell and the punishment for the sins committed in one's life.   The undeniable Truth is that all living entities have to leave this Earth one day.  In the same manner, one has undergo the punishments for the sins committed in their life.  The good deeds and righteousness are naturally rewarded.

It is believed that, one who leaves their mortal body is  taken by the Yamadoothas through the Western gate as a part of  the journey to the Abode of Lord Sriman Narayana/ Lord Shiva.  The evil-doers and sinners are taken  through the Southern gate  to the Abode of Lord Yama and propelled into Hell.

One who killed a Cow ( Go Hathya)  should spend one lakh years in the Hell named Mahavicha.  One who  committed Brahmahathya or engaged in stealing properties of  others  is propelled to the hell called Amakumbha and remains there till the end of the world.  One who murdered Women, Children or old people is propelled to the Hell called Rourava and  remains  there for  fourteen Manvatharas.  One who committed the sin of setting fire on someone is sent to  hell called - Maharourava/Karambavaluka and remains there for an entire Kalpa in the burning fire.  One who  had committed theft spends their life in the hell called Tamisra, where the Yamadootha pierces the sinner with spears for several Kalpas.  Finally, put into Mahatamisra  a place where  venomous snakes and insects live.  Killing of one's own parents takes them to the hell called Asipatravana, where their bodies are sliced down.  One who eats sweets without sharing is taken to the Hell called Kakaola where worms are fed to the sinner.  One who did not follow a righteous life, not  perform  any Yagna and rituals is  forced to drink blood in the hell called Kuttala.   Liars are  tormented in the Hell - Tailapaka and crushed like oilseeds.  There are several Hells for the sinners who commit  inter-caste marriages, those who eat meat, cut down trees, kill animals, those who criticise Gurus and Sacred scriptures and bears false witness.

Agni Puranam - Yama Gita !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Agni Puranam describes the essence of  'Yama Gita'. Lord Yama describes the nature of 'Atman' to Nachiketa - son of King Vajashrava.

The King Vajashrava conducted a Yagna in a grand manner.  In this Yagna, he gave away all his wealth as alms.  His son Nachiketa enquired his father after seeing him giving away each and everything he possessed. Nachiketa enquired his father ' Whom did I go with?'.  King Vajashrava with a lot of irritation replied that he had given away his son to Lord Yama.

Nachiketa left the palace to keep up his father's promise.  He went in search of Lord Yama's Abode and the path was so harsh.  He continued his journey for three days but  he could not find the servants of Lord Yama.  Finally, Lord Yama pleased with Nachiketa's faithful attitude, offered him a boon to return to Earth.   Nachiketa humbly refused the boon and expressed his desire to know the True nature of 'Atman'/ 'Brahman'.  Lord Yama explained the True Nature of 'Brahman'/Atman to Nachiketa known as 'Yama Gita'.

Lord Yama says that human nature was craving for possession of materials as well as immaterial  - wealth and sensual pleasures .  The learned and sages had clearly mentioned that momentary pleasures will not last forever so one should not get addicted to the pleasures of senses.

Lord Yama explains about Brahmam which possesses everything but nothing.  It is omnipresent but it cannot be seen.  The Atman is a warrior on the chariot of the Physical body while the mind and intelligence is the Charioteer.  The senses are the five horses and the duty of the warrior is to bring control over the senses and aim the arrow at the knowledge about 'Brahmam'.  The learned knows the identity of 'Atman'/Brahmam' and the liason between them known as a 'Samadhi' - Tranquility.  Once the Atman is freed from the body, it emerges with 'Brahmam'.

Agni Puranam - Gayatri Maha Mantra !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Agni Puranam describes the  significance of Gayatri Maha Mantra.

Human body is made up of five elements : Fire, Water, Wind, Ether and  Earth .  Out of several veins there are 10 major veins : Ida, Pingala, Sushumna, Gandhari, Hastijivha, Pritha, Yasha, Alambusha, Huhu and Shankhini.  These major veins carry the 'Prana Vayu' (breath for life).  Apart from the major veins there are some other sources for 'Prana Vayu ' : Apana, Samana, Udhana, Vyana, Naga, Kurma, Krikara, Devadatta and Danajaya.

Gayatri Mata is worshipped by all the deities including Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.  Gayatri Mata exists in each individual's soul in the form of a swan.  Gayatri Maha Mantra provides abundance of merits. One who chants Gayatri Maha Mantra a single time gets liberated from his sins.  One who chants this Maha Mantra ten times - attains Heaven.  One who chants the Maha Mantra twenty times - attains the most desirable world superior than heaven.  One who chants the Maha Mantra hundred and Eight times - attains 'Salvation' (No birth again).  One who chants the Maha Mantra thousand times - is releived from the severe sins like Brahma Hathya, Killing of Cow etc.  The Maha Mantra  should always be preceded by  Pranava Mantra ' Om'.
