Vilvaranyam Sri Shivayoginathar
Temple is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in
Thiruvisanallur, Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. It’s
one of the prominent temples of Lord Shiva dating back to Chola regime, temple
inscriptions reveals the contribution made by the King Paranthaka Chola I,
Rajaraja Chola I and Rajendra Chola II.
In this temple Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a self-manifested
Linga.

Yoganandeshwarar/Shivayoginathar/Vilvaranyeshwarar/Puradhaneshwarar with his
consort Goddess Sri Shanthanayaki Amman/Soundaryanayaki.

Significance – Eight passionate
devotees/Shivayogis underwent severe penance and merged with the Linga.

such as Gnana Bhairava, Swarna Akarshana Bhairava, Unmaththa Bhairava and Yoga
Bhairava represents the four phases of life/four Ashrama Dharmas in human life
famously known as Brahmacharya, Gruhasthashram, Vanaprastham and
Sanyashram. Worship of Gnana Bhairava during the phase of
Brahmacharya provides eternal wisdom and knowledge. Worship of Swarna Akarshana Bhairava during
the period of Gruhasthashrama bestows material well-being. Worship of Unmaththa Bhairava during the
phase of Vanaprasthashrama bestows good health and veneration of Yoga Bhairava
during the period of Sanyasashrama provides salvation at the lotus feet of
Supreme Lord.
