Jai Sriman Narayana !!
King Indradhyumna, the ruler of
Pandya Kingdom was a passionate devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once upon a time, he arrived at the mountain
ranges of Malaya and immersed in severe penance worshipping on Lord
Vishnu. He was completely absorbed in
the meditation, consequently did not notice the arrival of Sage Agastya who was
expecting some kind of welcoming gesture from King Indradhyumna.
Sage Agastya was infuriated at
the wrong behavior of Indradhyumna and cursed him for his arrogance to become an
elephant and left the place. Thus,
Indradhyumna attained the form of a divine elephant, leader of the elephants/Gajendra
due to the past memories of devotion and dedication to Lord Vishnu.
The divine elephant/Gajendra the
leader of elephants excelled in might, was blissfully sporting with the female
elephants arrived at the Trikooda Mountain which is the center of milky ocean. Oh! Supreme Lord Vishnu, Is not that certain
your ardent devotees inherits prominence?
The divine elephant/Gajendra of
immense might ecstatically lived in the regions of Trikooda Mountain without
any peril. One day, Gajendra with his
herds while roaming around the mountain in scorching heat, it was unbearable
for them, so they sought relief in a lake and sported with his herds as prompted
by supreme Lord Vishnu.
There was a celestial Huhu who was
turned into crocodile due to the curse of Sage Devala was lived in the lake,
caught the leg of the divine elephant/Gajendra for wellbeing. Oh!Supreme Lord Vishnu who gives sufferings
to your devotees for the ultimate welfare of them.
The King of elephant/Gajendra
fought with the crocodile with all its might and the strength that derived from
the veneration of Lord Vishnu. The
battle between them continued for more than a year, ultimately the time of
reparation has arrived for Gajendra, he regained the selfless devotion to the
supreme Lord once again.
Although Gajendra was going
through excruciating pain, due to the knowledge and perpetual devotion he had gained
in previous life, he plucked a white lotus flower with its trunk to worship
Lord Vishnu. Oh! Supreme Lord Vishnu, King of elephant/ Gajendra eulogized a
sacred hymn about the indescribable nature of Athman/Nirvishesha Athman,
remembered from his previous life.
Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva did
not respond to the prayers of the King of elephant/Gajendra, because after
listening to the sacred hymn they felt it was not addressed to them. Oh! Supreme Lord Vishnu! Oh! Sarvathma /Soul
of All Beings, who is the ocean of mercy mounted on his celestial vehicle
Garuda and hurried to Gajendra.
Supreme Lord Vishnu who holds the
fierce weapon disc/ wheel in his lotus hands cut the crocodile, instantly the
celestial Gandharva was released from the curse of Sage Devala and attained his
celestial form, in the same manner the King of elephant/Gajendra regained his
marvelous form similar to Supreme Lord.
Lord Vishnu spoke “Whoever praises
the glories of Supreme Lord and whoever recites the glorious myth of Gajendra
will attain salvation” and departed to the Abode of Vaikundha. Oh! Lord Guruvayurappa, I earnestly pray to
protect us.
