Thirukannamangai
Sri Bakthavalsala Perumal Temple is one of 108 Divya Desam of Lord Vishnu also
known as Sapthamrutha Kshetram located in Tiruvarur, District of Tanjavur in Tamil
Nadu. This temple is just 27km away from
Tirucherai, 38km from Kumbakonam and 8km from Tiruvarur.

Lord Baktavalsala
was also worshipped in Kritha , Thretha , Dwapara and Kaliyuga by Lord Brahma, Pururavass,
Sage Brighu and Akasa Purushas
respectively.
Sapthamatha
Brahmi and Lord Kasi Vishwanathar arrived in this sacred land at the advice of
Sage Romasa and Sage Markandeya. They
worshipped Lord Baktavalsan here after a holy dip in the Theertham.

Significance
– Thirukannamangai Aandan, one of the disciples of Nathamunigal was born here
and he was engaged (Pushpa Kainkaryam) in the service of Lord by collecting
flowers for the worship of Lord Bakthavalsala Perumal.
Badrivanam
found here is an ideal place for worship of Lord and undergo austerities; it bears
a resemblance of Naimisharanya Kshetram and Badri.
River
Cauvery splits into two streams and flows North and South of this sacred land formed
herself as a garland to Lord Baktavalsala Perumal.
A night
stay in this sacred land provides mukthi/liberation from the cycles of birth
and death.
The
legend has that Sri Mahalakshmi underwent severe penance to attain Lord
Baktavalsala as her husband. She took
holy dip in the Dharsana Pushkarani and underwent severe austerities in the Sri
Mandapam located here; Lord Baktavalsala was pleased at her devotion. Lord Brahma performed the marriage and the four
pillars on the Mandapa represented four Vedas witnessed the celestial marriage
of the divine couple. Hence, this place
has got its name ‘Lakshmi Vanam’. A rectangular shaped bee hives found on the
wall of the sanctum sanctorum of Goddess Sri Abhisheka Valli Thayar, all the Deities,
Yakshas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, Rishis and Sages appeared as bees to witness the
celestial marriage of the divine couple in this sacred land.
Sage
Romasa underwent severe austerities and prayed to Lord Baktavalsala Perumal
here. Lord was pleased at the Sage and
provided him dharshan. Lord Indra requested
Sage Romasa to meet Pandavas and boost their confidence during their exile from
Kingdom Hasthinapur. At the request of
Lord Indra, Sage Romasa met Pandavas and described to King Yudhishtira regarding
the ill effects of the planet Saturn on King Nala and his Kingdom.
It is believed
that whoever worships Lord in this sacred land after having a holy dip in the
pond, undergo severe austerities and fast, fed a Brahmin would attain
prosperity all through their life.
This
temple remains open from 7.30AM to 12.30PM in the morning and 5.00PM to 8.30PM
in the evenings.
