Jai Sriman Narayana !!

We a group of six members continued our visit to temples in Trichy.  In the morning we have finished our tour to Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple, Gunaseelam, Thiruvanaikka, Uthamar Temple and Samayapuram.    We have already fixed our plans for the evening and informed our driver sab to be ready by 4' o clock in the evening.   The three days stay in Jeeyar Madam was fabulous.   My son was roaming inside the Madam through the beautiful passages and courtyard; he thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere there.  It was lively and vibrant with the chanting of 'Jai Sriman Narayana' throughout the day.  He became one among the crowd, without having shirts on - with bare chest and poonal walking all around.  It was really surprising to see him like that way.  He managed to get sleep for few minutes, rest of the time climbing up and down the stairs watching the crowd.  The Tridandi Jeeyar madam is located in a beautiful surroundings and very close to majestic Rajagopuram of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

The legend has that the Worayur was ruled by the Chola King Nanga.    King Nanga ruled his Kingdom wisely and the people were happy.    The King Nanga had no off spring for long time and the royal couple were totally distressed.   Once, the King was out for hunting and arrived near the pond to quench his thirst.  There he   found a stunning baby girl in a Lotus flower.    It is believed that Sri Mahalakshmi appeared as a child in a Lotus.   King Nanga was jubilant at the sight of the baby and brought the child to his palace. The child was named  ‘Kamalavalli’ as she was found in the Lotus.    As the years passes by, the baby girl grown up in to a beautiful young woman and fallen in love with the presiding deity of the famous temple situated in Sri Rangam.    Kamalavalli Nachiyar underwent severe penance to get Sri Ranganathar as her husband.  Sri Ranganathar realized her desire and pleased at the devotion of Kamalavalli Nachiyar.   Sri Ranganathar appeared as Azhagiya Manavalan in front of Kamalavalli Thayar and got married.  In this temple Kamalavalli Thayar is in sitting posture for the wedding ceremony (In bridal posture) and the Perumal Azhagiya Manavalan in standing posture.   Sri Kamalavalli Thayar's Birth star is Ayilyam in the month of Panguni.  During this day, Sri Ranganathar visit Kamalavalli Nachiyar and stays in a single  Simhasanam  (Serthi Utsavam) and blesses His devotees.   Another importance of the place is that, this is the Birth place of Sri Thiruppana Alawar who was an zealous devotee of Lord.

Another legend has that there was a heated argument amongst the Rishis about who is superior amongst the three entities - ‘Trimurtis '.    The argument continued and continued without any fruitful conclusion.  All the Rishis approached the Sage Brigu for the precise answer.  Sage Brigu was ready to give an answer before that he wanted to make sure certain things.  He approached Lord Shiva and Parvathy in Kailash, unfortunately they were not to be seen.  The Sage went to meet   Lord Brahma and his Consort Saraswathy in Sathyaloka.   Unfortunately, that also did not happen.  Very disappointed sage Rishi approached Vaikundham where Lord Narayana resides with his Consort Sri Mahalakshmi.  The sage was welcomed with great honor and respect by Lord Narayana and Sri Mahalakshmi.  While washing the feet of Sage Brigu by Sriman Narayana, Sri Mahalakshmi moved toward her husband and informed him to keep away from this act.   This made Rishi Brigu lost his temper and cursed Sri Mahalashmi to be born as an ordinary human being on Earth.  She had to separate herselfwith a broken heart  from Sriman Naryana and promised to reunite in her next birth as 'KamalaValli'.

Another legend attached to this temple is that The Chola King - Dharma Varman while ruling his kingdom, once the king went out for hunting and met some distressed Rishis and enquired the reason behind their anguish.  They replied that a few demons were distracting them from performing the Yagas and Yagnas.  The King agreed to protect them from the demons so that the Rishis could perform their Yagnams without any hindrance.  Rishis showered their blessings on King Dharma Varman to have a virtuous offspring.  The King was fervent devotee of Sri Mahalakshmi, finally Sri Lakshmi herself born as daughter to King Dharma Varman.  The King named the baby girl 'Kamalavalli'.   As the days went on, the girl grown up into a beautiful young maiden and the King started to search for a perfect groom for his daughter.  During the wedding ceremony (the bridegroom would be selected by the bride) Sriman Narayanan appeared before her and without any second thought Sri Kamalavalli Thayar garlanded Him.  The entire Kingdom witnessed the 'Thiru Kalyanam' and the King raised a temple in admiration of his daughter's wedding.

This temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.PM in the mornings and 5.00PM to 8.00 PM in the evenings.
