Sri Krishna Leela - Legend of Kaliya Mardhanam – Srimad Narayaneeyam/Srimad Bhagavadam !! Lyrics & Its meaning

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have decided to expel the venomous serpent Kaliya from the river Kalindi and hurried towards the Kadamba tree situated on the river bank and settled on it which was left with no leaves due to the poisonous air.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have climbed upon the tree with your charming and cute little lotus feet which has the resemblances of the leaves.  You took a long leap into the deep waters of Kalindi which created a ferocious swirl effect.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, Oh! Bhuvanathraya, who is the bearer of three worlds, Alas! The colossal weight of you caused the river water swirl madly with an ear splitting noise; eventually the river bed submerged into water for several Yojanas/distance.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, the sudden roar due to the swirl of water spread across the vast areas on the river in various directions.  It was annoyed the venomous serpent Kaliya, the King of serpents consequently he came out of the water and rushed to you in a rage.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, you have witnessed the serpent Kaliya before you, it has thousands of hood emitting poisonous blazes and has the resemblance of black mountains crammed on the top of one another.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, the giant Kaliya spew out venomous air of intense heat on you and punctured all over your body with its extremely powerful teeth, it coiled your body and reduced your movement into nothing.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, the cowherds and the cattle were distressed at your absence, marched towards the river bank of Yamuna.  Alas! The cowherds of Gokulam witnessed various wretched omens in their houses; consequently they also rushed towards the river bank of Yamuna.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, all the cowherds assembled were in a state of agony observing your difficult situation, they were ready to give up their lives to protect you.  Suddenly, you have appeared before them with a broad smile, detaching the coils of Kaliya around you.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, You have mounted on the hood of serpent Kaliya and beautifully danced on it with your lotus feet moved according to the perfect rhythm, the gentle sounds of anklets and tingling noises of bangles added the beauty of your mesmerizing dance.

Oh! Supreme Lord Guruvayurappa, the cowherds were in a state of ecstasy while witnessing the marvelous dance of you, Sages and Rishis were eulogized your glories and the deities showered flowers on you.  Oh! Maruthgehapathey, I earnestly pray to protect us from chronic illnesses.
