The legend has that while
churning the milky ocean by the deities and demons there appeared acute venom
that was gracefully swallowed by Lord Shiva. Instantaneously, Goddess Parvati caught hold
of Lord Shiva’s throat and the venom wedged on his throat forever. In
this manner, Goddess Parvati saved the entire Universe from any destruction. In order to protect Lord Shiva from the ill
effects of the venom Goddess Parvati arrived on this sacred land and built a
hermitage of butter (Vennai in Tamil). She created a ‘Panchagni’ in the middle of
this hermitage made of butter and underwent severe penance praying to Lord. Thus, this place has got its name
‘Thiruvennainallur’.
Worship of Lord Krupapureeswarar
with his consort Goddess Mangalambikai along with Lord Ganesha provides mental
