Thiruchenkundroor also known as Dharmaputra Prathishta Temple is one of the 108 Divya Desams
of Lord Vishnu located in Chengannur, Alappuzha,Kerala.

Significance – This temple was built by King
Yudhishtira, one of the Pancha Pandavas from the great epic Mahabharath.
The legend has that during the ferocious battle
between the Pandavas and Kauravas at Dharmakshetram – Kurushektram, King
Yudhishtira’s declaration about the death of the elephant Ashwathama resulted
in the grief-stricken death of Dronacharya who mistook it was the death of his
son Ashwathama. King Yudhishtira was
felt ashamed of his treacherous act and assumed himself responsible for the
death of Dronacharya. Yudhishtira
arrived on this sacred land, took dip in the holy pond and underwent severe
austerities praying to Lord Vishnu and finally got rid of the sin.
Another legend has that Padmasura attained
several boons from Lord Shiva and started to harass sages and deities. He obtained a peculiar boon that he would die
only at the touch of his head by himself.
All the deities prayed to Lord Vishnu to put an end to the atrocities of
Padmasura. Lord Vishnu transformed into an
attractive woman Mohini and appeared before the demon. He was mesmerized at the beauty of Mohini and
obediently followed her instructions. Mohini ordered Padmasura should have a dip in
the holy pond before getting any closer to her. He went to have a dip in the pond and put a
handful of oil on his head, as per the boon he turned into ashes instantly.
This temple remains open from 6.00AM to 11.00AM
in the morning and 5.00PM to 7.30PM in the evenings.
