The
legend has that King Kuban was a zealous devotee of Lord Vishnu. Kuban had resentment towards Rishi Dhadeechi and
prayed to Lord Vishnu to take the life of Rishi. In order to satisfy his devotee, Lord Vishnu
sent his fierce weapon wheel to kill Rishi Dhadeechi who was engrossed in
meditation. Surprisingly, Rishi Dhadeechi
was saved without any harm and the wheel got damaged the moment it touched him. Lord Vishnu lamented at his action; he
arrived at Thirumaalpur and started to worship Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu while worshipping Lord Shiva with
1000 lotuses, in order to test his devotion Lord Shiva made one of the flower disappear from the bunches, Lord
Vishnu realized one flower was missing. Without any wavering Lord Vishnu plucked his
eye to offer in its place of lotus. The
most pleased Lord Shiva appeared before him, restored the lotus eye of Lord
Vishnu and offered him wheel as a boon.
Thus, this sacred place has got its name ‘Hari Chakrapuram’. Lord Vishnu worshipped here as ‘Senthamarai
Kannan Perumal’.
This
temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.00PM in the morning and 4.00PM to 9.00PM
