Jai Sriman Narayana !!
Adityahrudayam is a hymn praising
the glories of Lord Surya was narrated by Sage Agastya to Lord Rama in order to
heighten the spirits of Lord Rama who felt exhausted in the ferocious battle
with the demon Ravana.
Lord Rama was standing in the midst
of the battle field all weary after a prolonged battle with well equipped army
of warriors of the demon Ravana. All the
deities and sages were arrived to witness the ferocious battle, the illustrious
Sage Agastya who was in the company of deities spoke to Lord Rama ‘Oh !mighty
armed Rama ! My dear child! Listen carefully to the eternal secret that would
help you to conquer your enemies and win over your adversaries. Listen to the glorious hymn praising the
glories of Lord Surya/Adityahrudayam which is highly auspicious and beneficial,
which would bring victory and eternal happiness. This supreme hymn would destroy all sins,
dispel all qualms, alleviate grief and sorrows, anxiety and sufferings and
ultimately it provides prosperity and longevity of life to the worshiper. Worship Lord Surya who is the ruler of the Universe
who was venerated by the deities and demons as well, he has the crown of brilliance

Ravana.” Thus, Sage Agstya blessed Lord
Rama and predicted that Rama would slay the demon Ravana at the end of the
battle and took leave to his abode. After
listening to Sage Agastya, Lord Rama felt blissful and relieved from the grief
and anxiety. He sincerely followed the advice
of Sage Agastya, in a composed state of mind Lord Rama prepared to recite the
auspicious hymns, after ablations Lord Rama performed the rite and recited the

Rama regained immense strength which heightened his spirits and he lifted bow
with great enthusiasm; with all those vigor regained Lord Rama approached the
demon Ravana with a determination to kill him.
