Shiva Ashtapadi !! Yekonavimshashtapadi - Ashtapadi - 19

Jai Sriman Narayana !!
Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!
Shiva Gitimala was composed by Jagadguru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi ( 62nd Seer of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peedam), it consists of 20 enthralling verses known as Ashtapadi praising the pleasurable moments of Lord Ekamreshwarar and Goddess Sri Kamakshi.  This beautiful composition portraits the desperation, devotion and dedication, of individual soul/Jeevathma, attain union with the Supreme soul/Paramathma in order to achieve eternal bliss.  Shiva Ashtapadi/Shiva Gitimala begins with the veneration of Lord Ganesha.  The entire verses illustrate the miserable state of separation of Goddess Parvathi from Lord Shiva.  Goddess Sri Parvati underwent severe penance on the river banks of Kampa in order to unite with the Lord Shiva.  The divine couple undergoes unbearable pain of separation; Lord Shiva came down to Earth and resides under a mango tree where Goddess Sri Parvati undertakes penance was observed by faithful companion of Goddess and was duly informed.  The state of remorsefulness, desertion, guilt and the messages exchanged through the companion of Godess Sri Parvati etc.. are beautifully depicted in the Ashtapadi.  Ultimately Lord Shiva appears before Goddess Sri Parvati and apologizes profusely, after an initial harshness between the couple and blissfully unites.
In this verse Sri Chandrasekharendra Yati describes the blissful state of Goddess Sri Parvati after listening to the nectar like words of her faithful companion about Lord Shiva’s plea to get rid of her anger and not to keep any ill feelings towards him for the mistake he has committed, eventually his disclosure of helplessness to live without his consort and revelation of abundance of love.
Lord Shiva spoke “ Oh! Parvati who has enchanting eyes resemblance to red lotus, consort of Siva, I am taking shelter in you virtuous one, get rid of your anger and hatred towards your refugee.  Remove my miseries caused by the cupid flower arrows of Lord Manmatha, look at me through the corner of your beautiful lotus eyes which releases cool rays that are extremely captivating during our passionate sport.   Your passionate touch on my body alleviate the heat, your passionate touch on my heart with a gentle smile would follow multiple cool rays of moon, when you place the strings of flowers on my matted hair locks would results my brilliance outshine Ganga surrounded by the cluster of lotuses, embellish your raised bosom with the fine pieces of jewels, you are unfathomable like river Gaga who is streaming down from the peaks of Mount Himalaya.  Oh! Parvati my life would be fruitful when you alleviate the pain of separation with a look through the corner of your eyes, shed your anger with me and it has already borne its produce. Oh! Parvati, give me the nectar from your lips which has the power to suppress the passion created by the cupid flower arrows of Lord Manmatha, cast away my innumerable offences and share your knowledge of amorous sport with me I have come in pursuit of you.  You are indifferent to me, keep your raised bosom on me and bite me with your sharp teeth while you embrace that would be a lesson for me.   The dearest daughter of Himavan, do not ignore the poor in me exhausted due to the pain of separation and utter desolation, I shall serve you all my life, and consequently all my offences would be forgiven.”
The above verses of Chandrashekarendra Yati, ardent devotee of Lord Shiva praising the appeasing words of Lord Shiva to his consort Goddess Sri Parvati, daughter of Himavan would fulfill the desires of His devotees.
