Adi Pradoshapuri/Kosai Nagar/Koyambedu/Koyattipuram Thiru Kurangaleeswarar temple is one of the Abhimana Kshetram of Lord Shiva located on the north-west of Chennai, Tamil Nadu.  The temple inscriptions reveal the contributions made by King Kulothunga Choza and Emperor of Vijayanagar.

The legend has that Goddess Sita was exiled from the Kingdom of Ayodhya while she was pregnant.  She was resided in the hermitage of Sage Valmiki and eventually gave birth to two stunning beautiful children named Lava & Kusa.  The children were grown up in the hermitage was taken good care by Sage Valmiki and learnt knowledge in Veda, Astra and Sastra.  During this period of time, Lord Rama was conducted an Ashwamedha Yaga.  The Ashwa/horse proposed for conducting the Yaga was released; ultimately it was captured by Lava & Kusa and kept under their custody without the knowledge that it was sent by Lord Rama.  Lakshmana was assigned to locate the horse and arrived at the place where he met the two young Lava & Kusa.  Consequently the arguments between them resulted in a battle.  Lord Rama had to appear before the young children and tried to convince them about the seriousness of the Ashwamedha Yaga, but that too resulted in vain.  Young Lava & Kusa was  prepared to fight against their father, Sage Valmiki intervened and brought peace to the situation.   Due to this, Lava & Kusa was afflicted with a sin for fought against their  uncle and  father.  In order to get rid of the sin, young Lava & Kusa was advised to worship Lord Shiva at Kosai Nagar/Koyambedu.  They arraived at this sacred place and created a pond, consecrated a Linga and worshipped Lord Kusalavapureeswarar.
 
 
 This temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 12.00 PM in the morning and 4.00 PM to 8.30 PM in the evenings.
