Poigai
Azhwar /Saroyogi / Poigaipiran/ Padmamuni was found in a lotus flower in a pond
situated at Sri Yathothkari Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram in the Tamil month
Aippasi with the birth star Sravana/ Thiruvonam on a Shukla Paksha Ashtami day.
It is believed that Sri Poigai Azhwar was a reincarnation Conch, one of the
Panchayudham of Lord Vishnu. Poigai Azhwar was a zealous devotee of Lord
Yathothkari Perumal from the early days of childhood. He composed
stunningly beautiful verses praising the glories of Lord Vishnu were famously
known as Muthal Thiruvandhadhi.
Poigai
Azhwar visited many sacred shrines of Lord Vishnu and sung praising the
glories of Lord. He arrived at Thirukkovilur on a heavy down pouring
night. Poigai Azhwar took shelter in the hermitage of Sage Mrigandu where
there was tiny space to stretch out for a person. Shortly, there arrived
Boothathazhwar requesting for a shelter. Sage Mrigandu guided him to the
tiny room where Poigai Azhwar was already settled, with an instruction that the
place adequate for one to stretch out and two could sit. Within no time,
there arrived Pey Azhwar with the same request to protect himself from the
torrential rain. Sage Mrigandu gracefully led him to the tiny space where
Poigai Azhwar and Boothathazhwar were already in with an instruction that the
small place was capable for one could stretch out, two could sit and three
could stand.
The three
zealous devotees of Lord Vishnu spend the night standing together on the tiny
space and discussing the eternal glories of Lord. Soon, they felt a
sudden congestion and the presence of fourth one shoved into their space
followed with lightning and thunder. Instantaneously they realized the
presence of Lord Sriman Narayana and sung praising the glories of Lord.
Later, the three Azhwars were visited the Thirukkovilur Divya Kshetram and sung
the splendor of Lord at their heart's content.
