Thiru Gnana Sambandhar along with Thiru Neelakanda Yazhppanar who was an outstanding Yazh (A kind of string instrument) instrumentalist, paid a visit to this place. The people assembled were praised the proficiency of Yazhppanar reverently, also made an unfavorable comment that the Sambandhar’s songs gained popularity because of Yazhppanar’s admirable support on Yazh. After listening to this unpleasant comment, Thiru Yazhppanar felt terribly remorseful begged for forgiveness to Sambandhar. Sambandhar sang praising the glories of Lord Dharmapureeswarar, Thiru Yazhppanar mournfully followed to the tunes of Sambandhar, unfortunately he failed to play the Yazh with the tunes. The most dejected Thiru Yazhppanar prepared to smash the Yazh, Sambandhar intervened and pacified him.

This temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 12.00 PM in the morning and 4.00PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
