Thirukkurungudi/Marunthanthanallur
is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in Kumbakonam,
Thanjavur District, Tamil Nadu. This is one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiva
built during the regime of Emperor Rajarajadevar of Tribuvana Kingdom. In
this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested Linga.

consort Goddess Sri Sarvalangara Nayaki /Advaitanayaki/Kalyana Nayaki/Karumparkuzhalarivai

Lord
Rama, Sita with Lakshman and Anjaneya arrived on this sacred place after vanquishing
the demon King Ravana. Lord Rama
underwent severe austerities and worshipped Lord Shiva. Lord Anjaneya was assigned to bring Linga
from Mount Kailash as he was late to return within the specific period; in the
meantime Goddess Sita created a Linga out of the sand and consecrated the Linga
within the stipulated hours of worship. There is a Linga brought by Lord Anjaneya
known as Hanumath Linga also can be seen in this temple.

temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 10.00 AM in the morning and 5.00 PM to 7.00
PM in the evenings.
