The
legend has that Lord Shiva and Goddess Sri Parvati engaged in a dice game at
Mount Kailash. Eventually, Goddess Sri
Parvati won over Lord Shiva. Out of embarrassment
Lord sneaked out of Mount Kailash.
Goddess Sri Parvati worried about the sudden disappearance of Lord and
went in search for him. Finally, Goddess
Parvati arrived at Thirusirukkudi and created a pond, sanctified a Ling with
the raw sands and continued austerities.
Lord was pleased at the devotion of Goddess Sri Parvati and reunited
with him. Thus, this place has got its
name Sookshmapuri.
This
temple remains open from 6.00 AM to 11.00 AM in the morning and 5.00 PM to 7.30
PM in the evenings.
