Life
of Thiru Muruga Nayanar
The
legend has that demon Banasura’s mother was a zealous devotee of Lord Shiva. Banasura had a desire to provide her with a Linga
to worship at her own place, so he arrived on the sacred land and made an
effort to take out the self-manifested Linga positioned here. Bansura continued the digging process that was
turned out unsuccessful and he was completely disappointed. Finally, he prepared to sacrifice his life
before the Linga. Soon, Lord appeared
before Banasura and pacified him with a promise that Lord would accept the
worship of his mother from this very own place and the burrow Banasura created alongside
the Linga became the holy pond.
This
temple remains open from 6.30 AM to 12.00 PM in the morning 4.30 PM to 8.30 PM
