The
legend has that Lord Surya lost his brilliance due to the curse of Lord
Shiva. In order to get rid of the curse
Lord Surya underwent severe austerities on this land and worshiped Lord Shiva. The austerities continued for some time, Lord
Surya was deeply frustrated to see any difference in his sufferings, so he
deafeningly called out the sacred names of Lord for help. Goddess Sri Parvati who was having
pleasurable time with the Lord was perturbed at the piercing noise of Lord
Surya. Goddess Sri Parvati angrily prepared to curse
Lord Surya for his demeanor; Lord Shiva pacified his consort and narrated the anxious
state of Lord Surya. At this moment, the
Vasini/Vagdevatha instigated from the mouth of Goddess Sri Parvati praised the
glories of her celebrated as Sri Lalitha Sahasranama.
Worship of Thiru Meghanathar
with his consort Goddess Sri Lalithambika, chanting Sri Lalitha Sahasranama
provides abundance pieties.
