Ashtami falls on the eighth day of waxing period of moon in the month of
Karthikai. It’s believed that this is
the day Lord Krishna started nurturing the cows with the instructions of his
foster father Nandagopala. Sri Radha
Rani also had the same desire to get along with the herds of cows and calves. As a girl
she was not allowed move along with the cows and calves. Sri Radha Rani clothed like a lad and joined
with the crowd of little Krishna and Gopis. On
this day of Gopashtami devotees worship cows and calves by giving ritual bath and
offerings.
In
temples of Mathura, Vrindavan and Nath Dwara etc.. special rituals and worship
of cows and calves are carried out and offerings are made to them as an
appreciation for the things provided that are necessaries in human life.
Radhey
Krishna !!
Jai
Sriman Narayana !!
