Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!
Karuvur (Karur) is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam of Lord Shiva located in
Karur District, Tamil Nadu. This is one
of the prominent temples of Lord Shiva occupies 2.65 acres of massive land with
exquisite murals and architectural work.
In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a self-manifested
Linga.

deity – Sri Kalyana Pasupathinathar/Anilayappar with his consort Goddess Sri
Sundaravalli/Alangaravalli
Significance
– This is the birth place of Thiru Pukazh Chozar, one of the 63 Nayanmars. He ruled the entire province of Karuvur, there is an exquisite Mandapam positioned here in this temple as a
tribute to this righteous ruler .

The
legend has that the divine cow Kamadhenu sincerely worshipped a Linga located
on an anthill on this sacred land by pouring her milk on it. Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of
Kamadhenu and assumed himself as ‘Pasupatheeswarar’ and remained on this land
forever.
This
temple remains open from 6.00AM to 12.30PM in the morning and 4.00PM to 8.30PM
in the evenings.
