The
legend has that Sundraramurthy Nayanar arrived on this sacred land and
witnessed a heart breaking incident in the village situated here. He could listen to the sounds of divine
musical instruments and saw full of happy faces gathered in a house and just
opposite to this house he found people mourning at the death of a child. Sundarar enquired the people assembled and
understood that the two Brahmin children from both the houses went for a bath
in the pond situated near the temple.
And one child was trapped into the mouth of the crocodile and the other
one was miraculously saved. The parents
of the child who was returned safe and sound from the danger were performing
Brahmopadesham for their son.
Unfortunately, the parents of the child who lost his life in this
incident were mourning at the death of their dearest child. The grief stricken parents approached
Sundarar and earnestly prayed to him. Sundarar was distressed at this news, went to
the pond and passionately sung praising the Lord Avinashiappar. Instantly, the pond was over flown with water
and the crocodile appeared before him.
All of a sudden, the crocodile wide opened its mouth and shoved off the
child to Sundarar.
This
temple remains open from 6.00AM to 1.00PM in the morning and 4.00PM to 8.00PM
in the evenings.
