The legend has that in Dwapara Yuga there was a King Chokkalinga arrived on this sacred land for his favorite pastime hunting.  He found a stunning lotus flower in the pond situated here.  King ordered his men to collect the flower from the pond immediately.  Unluckily, King’s men were not succeeded at this task.  So, King Chokkalinga dived into the pond and tried all means to collect the flower.   Surprisingly, the lotus flower started to float around him without giving him a chance to pluck.   King was disturbed at this mystifying incident, he shot an arrow aiming at the Lotus flower.  Instantaneously, the water in the pond turned into red in color.  King was baffled at this frightening sight, moved closer to the flower and found a Linga on it.  Shortly, King Chokkalinga built a temple to worship on its place and sanctified the Linga.

This temple remains open from 6.00AM to 10.00AM in the morning and 5.30PM to 7.30PM in the evenings.
