Thirukoodalaiyatrur is one of the 275 Thevara
Shivasthalam located at the confluence of River Vennaru and Manimutharu. It is 25 kms away from Chidambaram and 5kms
from Sri Mushnam in Kadalloor District, Tamil Nadu. In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the
form of a Linga.

Mangalasasanam –Sundarar
Sundarar arrived on this scared land and was searching
for the route to reach Shiva temple at Thirumuthukundram. He unknowingly passed
this temple without paying a visit. Instantaneously, there appeared a Brahmin before
him and guided Sundarar to Thirukoodalaiyatrur.
He arrived on this sacred temple
and realized that the Brahmin was none other than Lord Shiva himself. He passionately sung praising the kindness of
Lord in his compositions.

The legend has that Sage Agastya arrived on this
sacred land and worshipped Lord Narthana Vallabeswara. He underwent severe austerities praying Lord
to remain stanch with the pure wisdom & intelligence he has gained all
through years.
Another legend has that Lord Brahma and Goddess
Saraswathy arrived on this holy land and worshipped Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was pleased at the devotion of
Lord Brahma & Goddess Saraswathy and revealed his cosmic dance forms to
them. Thus, the presiding has got his
name ‘Narthana Vallabeswarar’.
Worship of Sri Narthana Vallabeswara with his
consort Goddess Parasakthi and Gnanasakthi provides abundance of pure wisdom
and intelligence. This is one of the
rarest temples enshrines Lord Chitraguptha, the assistant of Lord Yama.
This temple remains open from 6.00AM to 12.00PM
in the morning and 4.30PM to 8.00PM in the evenings.
