Thirukoodalaiyatrur is one of the 275 Thevara Shivasthalam located at the confluence of River Vennaru and Manimutharu.  It is 25 kms away from Chidambaram and 5kms from Sri Mushnam in Kadalloor District, Tamil Nadu.  In this temple Lord Shiva worshipped in the form of a Linga.

Sundarar arrived on this scared land and was searching for the route to reach Shiva temple at Thirumuthukundram. He unknowingly passed this temple without paying a visit.   Instantaneously, there appeared a Brahmin before him and guided Sundarar to Thirukoodalaiyatrur.   He arrived on this sacred temple and realized that the Brahmin was none other than Lord Shiva himself.  He passionately sung praising the kindness of Lord in his compositions.
