Keezhai Thirukattupalli is one of the 275 Thevara
Shivasthalam located in Shirkazhi, Nagapattinam District, Tamil Nadu. This is one of the oldest temples located on
the northern banks of river Cauvery; it is just 1km away from another Thevara
Shivasthalam Thiruvengadu and 11kms from Shirkazhi. The
distinguishing style of construction of Sri Dakshinamurthy shrine provides the
rumble of sea can be heard at all times.
Presiding deity – Sri Aranya Sundareswarar with
his consort Goddess Sri Akilanda Nayaki

The legend has that Lord Indra beheaded the
demon Vruthrasura and afflicted with the sin of Brahmahathya. In order to get rid of the sin of
Brahmahathya, all the deities worshipped Lord Shiva on behalf of Lord Indra on
this sacred land. Lord Brahma sanctified
ten Lingas and worshipped Lord in this holy land.
This temple
remains open from 6.30AM to 11.00AM in the morning and 5.00PM to 7.30PM in the
evenings.
