According
to hindu scriptures Sri Durga depicted as fierce form of Adi Sakthi, a powerful
goddess riding on a roaring lion,
carrying ten malicious weapons in each hands. Sri Durga is the Supreme
Goddess and mother of Lord Ganesha and Lord Karthikeya. Goddess Sri Parvati transformed herself into a
fierce form to behead the demon Mahishasura on this day.
Hence Durga Ashtami/Navami commemorates the victory of Goddess Durga
over the demon Mahishasura.
