Sampradaya Bajan !!

It was in the month of June, 2010 our short vacation in Chennai immediately after closing the schools for holidays was very interesting.  My mom also joined with us to increase the bundle of joy.  She is an amazing women very loving, adorable and full of fun.  The days we have spent with her always been memorable.  The interesting and very productive things during the holidays were my son’s yoga classes, swimming classes, Satsang at home during every Ekadashi days by Sri. Karthikeyan Mama from T.Nagar.  I wanted to describe more about this wonderful person who has profound knowledge in Sanskrit, Veda, Vedanga, Scriptures etc.  For the first time in my life I have met a person who sincerely follows all the Nithyanushtanams in this Kaliyuga, daily rituals prescribed in scriptures flawlessly.   He is in his late 60’s with the abundance of knowledge in varied Sanskrit topics of  Puranas, Sastras, Vedic and Devotional hymns.   He is running a Vedic school in T.Nagar for free of cost.  One of the person who believes in Veda is the breath of Paramatha and spreading the knowledge among the public not with an intention to make money.  I have not seen him free for a minute in his life.   He will be in Kanchi, the next moment he will be in T.Nagar giving free lessons on Veda or will be in some of the houses giving children speech or lessons.  His day starts with Nithyanushtanams and classes set to every hour with a little break for himself.   He is really an amazing personality.  Whatever happens, he never forgets to visit us during the Ekadashi days and give lessons on significance of Ekadashi, great works of Sri Adi Sankara etc. The Explanation about the marvelous composition of  Sri Adi Sankara’s  Sivananda Lahari in Srisailam,  Significance of Jyothir Lingas, Stories from Narayaneeyam etc. The Importance of Ekadashi Vrutham, Life of Sri Adi Sankara, narration of Nrusimha Stotram, Ranganatha Ashtakam of Adi Sankara, chanting Vsihnu Saharanama followed by Apathudharana sthothram, praising Vishnu’s Panchayudha sthothram etc… He will be spending nearly two hours at our residence.  We all sit in front of him like children eagerly waiting to hear from him.  In this way, our holidays went on blissfully.

 

Shortly, my husband also joined with us for a short holiday, the very next day we have arranged a Sampradaya Bajan at our residence by Mrs.Lakshmi Sheshan & Group.   I should say something about this interesting and lovely lady, my Guru and mom like personality.   Previously she used to visit her son in Dubai/Abu Dhabi, during her short trip she will be busy occupied with us teaching Slokas in wonderful Ragas. Our group consists of 7/8 ladies had the opportunity to learn from her.  I am one of the fortunate people to be with her during those days.  In between I lost in touch with her due to my personal problems. By the Grace of Lord I regained her contact while I was Chennai.  My son was learning Swimming from The Chennai Aquatic Complex in Guindy.  Mrs. Lakshmi Sheshan was living nearby, she advised me to organize a Sampradaya Bajan at our residence by her group consists of eleven ladies. I thought this is a marvelous opportunity to take pleasure in her Bajan treat.

 

 

 

On 31st July, 2010 we were busily arranging seating accommodation for the singers, members of the family and friends.  As planned earlier the food for guests will be served immediately after the program, prepared Sarkkara Pongal, Kozhukattai, Rasakalan, Vethakozhambu, Bonda, Panchamrutham, Thayir sadam etc….  My mom and myself were busy engaged in cooking from the morning, so that we can finish it by evening 4’o clock before the Bajan starts,  honestly, it was not that easy job at all.  The Bajan group arrived little late due to the difficulty in finding location, after serving hot cup of coffee the group started their program as they have planned.  We all were settled in our seats and the Bajan started with Dyana slokam of Ganapathy, Thodaya Mangalam,  Ashtapadi …… etc…etc.. The program continued for more than two hours including ladies Kolattam (dance performance).    For the first time I was witnessing those fun filled Kolattam and Natya Nadakam by the ladies.  I have no words to express our gratitude to Mrs. Lakshmi Sheshan and her great effort to co-ordinate such a fabulous delightful event and I am still searching for words to thank her.
