garland to Lord Indra who was merrily travelling on his celestial Airavatha, the
flower garland was previously adored to Goddess Sri Mahalakshimi.  Lord Indra carelessly placed it on the
Airavatha was thrown into the ground and thrashed.   Sage
Durvassa who was famous for his uncontrollable anger, cursed Lord Indra.  Due to the curse Lord Indra lost his fame and
glories.  Lord Indra approached Lord
Brahma and pleaded for a solution to regain the glories.  Lord Vishnu advised churning the milky ocean
with the assistance
of demons would re- instate the glories once again.  The   deities and demons initiated churning of milky
ocean for the elixir of immortality utilizing Mount Mandhara and Serpent
Vasuki.   Shortly,  Halala poison spew out of serpent Vasuki was
capable to destroy the entire Universe was gracefully swallowed by Lord
Shiva.  Goddess Sri Parvati got hold of
the poison and it remained in the throat, therefore Lord Shiva assumed the form
of Lord Neelakanda.  Maharishi Narada
advised deities to initiate worship of Lord Ganesha, remover of obstacle that
would provide success in their endeavors.
  Lord Indra realized their folly
and created an image of Lord Ganesha with the foam appeared on the surface of
the ocean and worshipped, eventually the churning of Milky Ocean turned out
fruitful and many precious resources emerged out of the ocean, ultimately the
elixir of immortality.
