Our Temple Tour to Veleeswaran Kovil, West Peruvemba - Kerala !!

Jai Sriman Narayana !!

Jaya Jaya Sankara Hara Hara Sankara !!

Our six members group continued our journey to Veleeswaran Kovil - West Peruvemba.  There are two villages close to each other known as East and West Peruvemba.    West Peruvemba is a small village in Palakkad District.  It is just seven miles away from Palakkad District, Kerala.

The roads were too narrow to drive.   The Village diety is Lord Veleeswaran, in this temple Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Linga.  This temple is situated just right in the middle of the Agraharam.  On the right, there is a newly constructed Veda Padasala.   The Temple has the Sannidhis of Ambal, Lord Ayyappa, Lord Ganesha, Lord Murga and Lord Nandikeshwara  .  Inside the temple there is a big well, the well water is used for daily abishekam and preparation of Prasadams for the Lord.

  1. hellow I was poojari of this temple from 1969 to 1971. I am from Mangalore. My maternal uncles, my elder brother also performed shanthi in this temple. I studied malayalam only during my pooja seva in this temple for 3 years. I left the temple by or about July-August 1971 and came to Bangalore.

  9. Happened to see your experiences after visiting the GRamam .

Initially, I could not make out about you and hence spoken to Mr. Ganesan , your cousin at Mumbai.

I also did my education from Peruvamba and came to Mumbai in 1973 and settled hereitself. My family also visit Peruvamba for darshan of our Village deity Veleeswarathappan and our Adima Karu Ottookulangara Bhagavati Kovil in East Peruvamba.

My house in Peruvamba is just behind our Kovil. My Athai, Late Meenakshi Mami sold this house, due to her old age and taken a house in Kalpathy, Palakkad.

Hope, Mr. Ganesan must have told you all the activities happening in our village every year. This year, we are celebrating 10th Pratishta Day functions in our Veleeswarathan Kovil from 9th May to 11th May 2011. Please try to attend these functions. All our village people assemble there during this function.

Please give me your email ID so that I wll send you the programme details of the functions.

Anyhow, you have done a wonderful naration of our village in this site.

    Regards and rest in next.

  10. hello!
I am Sundareswaran(Sundaram), the fourth son of Nochur Krishna Sastri(Vadhyar).
Sri. Sivarama Bhat may not be knowing me. Hr may be knowing elder brothers Yajnaraman and Jayaraman.
I am working with the University of Calicut as Professor of Sanskrit. My father is staying with me at Calicut town.
    Dear Sri Bhat!
Iam eager o know whether you are related to Sri Mahalinga Bhat of Mangalore, who was an archaka in the Veleeswaram temple.
Most of the people you referred to in your posting are known to me.
Last week, I happened to meet Mrs. Vidya, the third daughter of Sri Kicha mama at Thrissur.I learnt from her that Kicha mama is no more. She told me about the sad demise of her brother Sri Jai also.
The Ramanarayana Iyer whom you are mentionig may be MENON SAMI.If he is, then he was also known by the name CHINNAMBI.The Chandramouli, Late sri. Krishna Iyer and Narayana Iyer, who are referred to in Mrs. Uma's posting are the Sons of MENON SAMI.I know that a daughter of Narayana Iyer, Geetha by name is residing at Thane, Mumbai.
Pichai mama is no more. And not to speak of Nanu Patta, who was very much senior to Kicha mama, Pichai mama etc.
Kaveri mami is also gone. Her eldest son Sri. K. Ramanathan (who was working with the SC Railways ) is residing at Hubli. Sri. M. K. Subramanian, his younger brother, who was popularly known as Station Mash Chuppamani, is also no more. Eachara mama and Annamami have kicked the bucket long back.
I would like to hear more about the natives of Veleeswaram.
Eager to hear more from PANIYATRI(It was how we used to mention the Village, a slang for Patinjare thara)ites.

  12. Dear Sri Sundareswaran,

Sri Mahalainga Bhat of Mangalore is my maternal uncle. (younger brother of my mother). He passed away one year back. Your father used to come to the padinhara thara village to perform Bhagavathi Seva during Karkidam. One or two of your brothers used to come to Veleeswaram temple during Rudrabhishekha to chant Laghunyasam and Mahanyasam. I presume that Nechur Temple was demolished. But dont know the reason. Once I visited Nechur Temple for Theru.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sir,
Nochur Temple is not at all demolished. Might be during your visit, renovaion
work was in progress. In fact the Kumbhabhishekam after renovation was also completed on 25.5.2012.

I think Subrahmanya Bhat was also
    doing pooja for Veleeswarathappan.
    Jayaraman.

  14. Dear Sri Sivarama Bhat,
    Pranams.
Yes. Nochur Bhagavathi temple is not demolished, as rightly pointed out by my brother.
The temple you remember may be the temple built by Nochur Swamiji. It is demolished long back.
Once upon a time, this temple and the Swamiji were very popular.
And Nochur village itself was known by/after him.
Now the Swamiji is no more.
    NOCHUR BHAGAVATHI TEMPLE flourishes.
Nowadays Nochur is better known for Sri Venkataraman(popularly known as NOCHUR) who gives religious discourses. Incidentally he belongs to the family of the Nochur Swamiji.

  15. Hellow, I am Shivarama Bhat.

Though my stay in Veleeswaram Village Temple as Shanthikkaran was for a very short period, I cannot forget the experience and joy I got in that village. Sri Ramanarayana Iyer (who was also used to call as Chinnambi, Menava Pattar) used to keep a kamandala with him wherever he goes within the Village. His wife (I remember as Saraswathi Ammal) used to give me very good dishes (kootan). She occasionally used to visit temple. During the evening pooja when Shiva Sahasranamam was offered Sri Nanu Pattar used to sit before the Temple till the end of Sahasranamam by chanting. The Annabhishekha to Lord Veleeswarathappan cannot be forgotton in my life. So also Panguni Utharam. During my time once Athi Rudra was conducted. For that function Sri Kuppu Iyyer had prepared tasteful food in the Temple. The Thamarai Malai and Tulasi Malai prepared by Sri Appe Warrior were wonde*rful. His uncle Sri Appu Warrior used to serve in the Temple during my brother Subramanyan was performing pooja. In Tattamangalam in Arangam I used to make daily Thevaram. In Arangam I liked very much Sri Kashi, the Karyasthan, his brother Sri Shivarama Krishnan, Sri Kashi's son Chundaram.

Let Veleeswarathappan's blessings always be on every body.

    P.Shivarama Bhat.

  16. SIR,
I feel that Krishnayyar, Narayanayyar and Chandramauli all were children of
Chinnambi patta. I had the privilege of doing shashi abhishem every month
in their madhom. I think I have also seen SHRI CHANDRAMAULI on occasions like Maharudram, Ahirudranm Navagraha Homams, and other varied shanthi havans conducted in their home. It gives me pleasure in reading these posts.
    With reverential regards to all.

  17. our cow lakshmi

our father had received godanam from this small village on different occations. From Chinnambi pattas house itself we had received few cows. One of the cows was red in colour. It was yielding milk in moderate quantities only. with love we had named it Lakshmi. Normally when the cows stopped giving milk we used to sell the cows. But we were so much attached to Lakshmi, it became a family member though, even after stopping to give milk. She remained in our family as a part of our family till she died. We children felt sorry for her. Her body was finally put in our own backyard. Her memories still remain with us. THE GOMATA SHE WAS.
I cherish the memories of Chinnambi Patta and their family.

  26. All Veleeswaram Gramam people

I am P S G Krishnan of Veleeswaram Gramam, s/o. Late Shri P G Subramanian ( from Meena mami house) now settled in Mumbai. I came to Mumbai in 1973 and settled here itself. I do not have any house in Veleeswaram Gramam, but after taking charge of our Veleeswaram Gramam Lord Siva Parvati temple work, I used to visit twice in a year to the Gramam, along with P K Ganesh Vadhyar (s/o of Late Shri Krishna Iyer), Sadasivan, Konthai, Ramesh , for Kovil functions.

In the year 2015, we had conducted our Kovil's Jeernodharana Maha Kumbhabhishekam. It was a 11 days fucntions and it went down very well. We had renovated the entire temple complex and as well as replacement the old Kodimaram with new one.

Now as per the Lord Siva's wish, we have planned to conduct the Athirudra Maha Yagnam in our Veleeswaram Gramam Temple from 16th January to 26th January 2017, along with Pratishta Day functions. The preparations are underway.

Whoever reads this message, please come down and attend the functions and take the blessing of the presiding deity Lord Siva. It is once in a life time event. Please also provide me your postal address and contact no, so that I can reach you the printed notice for this event.

    REGARDS TO ALL
